The Nepal-Tibet border disaster has turned into a desperate search for missing people. Among those still unreachable is Lax Gopisetty, chief of Infosys Public Services, who was visiting Nepal in a personal capacity, reports have said. The Ministry of External Affairs said 320 Indian nationals remained missing or uncontactable, while around 400 others were stranded on the Chinese side of the border. The wider disaster has left thousands missing across Nepal and Tibet.The floods struck with extraordinary speed after an ice-and-rock avalanche in the Himalayan region sent a huge surge of water, mud and debris downstream. Roads, bridges and settlements were swept away, making ordinary communication and travel extremely difficult.Gopisetty's disappearance has drawn attention because of his senior position at Infosys. According to the company's statement, he was travelling privately and was not on an official work trip.Infosys said, "Our immediate priority is to ensure his safety and well-being." The company is working with relevant agencies to gather information and establish contact, while remaining in touch with his family.At this stage, there is no confirmed information about where Gopisetty is or what happened to him. Injured and separated from his family, he was later taken to a hospital. A Reuters journalist who had encountered him helped connect him with his mother, who had feared her sons were dead.For families, a missing person's name is not simply another number on a government list. It can mean days of unanswered calls, hospitals being checked one after another and waiting for even a small piece of information.There has been some movement. The MEA said 153 Indians stranded on the Chinese side had safely crossed into Nepal, while 21 Indians rescued from flood-hit areas reached New Delhi after travelling through Kathmandu.The search for Gopisetty continues alongside hundreds of other searches. For now, the most important fact remains simple: he has been reported unreachable, not confirmed dead.
