Videos showing a group of men in the eastern state of Bihar harassing two minors, including a girl, were going viral on social media on Monday.
The initial video, seemingly shot at night, showed a group confronting a young man and woman, apparently because they were together alone. One of the perpetrators is seen grabbing the girl from the bottom, hoisting her in the air, to rush her away from her companion.
More videos of the incident surfaced later, showing the couple surrounded by a mob while they were visibly distressed. We are not including the video because of its sensitive nature.
Indians demand arrests
Enraged netizens reacted to the video, tagging local police and demanding accountability and arrests.
"The video from Jamui, Bihar is deeply disturbing," Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi wrote on social media. "Two Class 10 students were stopped on a road. Harassed. Humiliated. Molested. A young girl, hands folded, begged to be let go while goons groped her and dragged her away," he said.
"Every individual in that video must be identified and prosecuted under POCSO, and justice must be swift. And if the incident happened on September 19th, why are the culprits not behind bars yet?" he added. POCSO stands for the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act.

How have police responded?
Local police confirmed that the two victims were minors who had gone to the location to take pictures, and that a criminal complaint (First Information Report or FIR) had been made. "The accused will be identified and arrests ensured at the earliest," Jamui Police said on social media.
Meanwhile, Jamui SP Vishwajeet Dayal said the video came to the department's attention on Monday morning.
"Based on the video, we identified the victims and recorded their statements. It came to light that the incident took place around 7 pm on September 19. The two friends, a boy and a girl, had gone for coaching and had gone to the area, where the incident occurred, to take photographs," the officer told reporters.
"The accused have been identified. We are taking legal action and the accused will be arrested soon," Dayal said.
