The grand national event will take place at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unfurl the national flag and deliver his 13th consecutive address to the nation.

This year’s celebration centres around the theme, Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047’, alongside a special tribute marking 150 years of Vande Mataram. The ceremony will feature an indigenous 21-gun salute using Indian-made 105mm Light Field Guns, an aerial flower shower by Mi-17 helicopters, and an AI-driven real-time translation of the Prime Minister’s speech into 22 Indian languages. Independence Day 2026: The Firsts

Vande Mataram at Red Fort: Sung live during the ceremony for the very first time in 80 years of Independence Day events to honor 150 years of the song.

Indigenous 21-Gun Salute: For the first time, all major equipment used during the ceremony will be indigenously built. The traditional 21-gun salute will be fired by the ceremonial 1721 Field Battery using indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns.

Flag Hoisting: Captain Sonia Singh Chauhan will assist PM Modi in unfurling the Tiranga from the ramparts of the monument.

Aerial Flower Shower: Two Mi-17 helicopters will shower flower petals over the venue immediately after the flag hoisting.

Special Guests: The event will host 5,000 special guests alongside 2,500 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets.

Real-time Translation: The Prime Minister’s speech will be translated live into 22 Indian languages using the AI-based Digital India Bhashini app, ensuring the message reaches every citizen in their mother tongue

The celebrations this year are built around a dual-focus theme highlighting national history and the future:

150 Years of Vande Mataram: Paying a special tribute to the legacy of India’s National Song. For the first time ever, Vande Mataram will be formally rendered by NCC cadets and ‘My Bharat’ volunteers at the Red Fort right after the Prime Minister’s address.

Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047: Emphasising the role of Indian youth and Gen-Z entrepreneurs in transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
