The Pakistan Cricket Board has lodged a complaint against Sky Sports after the broadcaster aired an interview with Imran Khan’s sons during the lunch break of the second Test between England and Pakistan, according to a report in Cricinfo.

As per the report, the Pakistan Cricket Board considered having its team refuse to take the field after the break as a mark of protest.

Former England skipper and current Sky Sports broadcaster Mike Atherton held the interview, during which Imran’s sons, Suleiman and Kasim, voiced concerns about their father’s health.

Imran has been in prison for three years and his sons said that they feared for his life.

As per the report, the Pakistan Cricket Board contacted Sky before the lunch break to object to the segment and threatened to keep its cricketers off the field after lunch if it was broadcast.

During those discussions, Sky delayed the interview before airing the 18-minute segment. By the time it ended, Pakistan’s cricketers were getting ready to return to the field for the second session at 2:40 pm (7:10 pm IST).

Atherton held the interview with Imran’s sons on Wednesday morning in the Writers’ Room at Lord’s, with Sky having promoted the segment with a teaser ahead of the Test.

But PTV, the broadcaster of the series in Pakistan, chose not to air the interview.

Imran’s health has come under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks, with his sons intensifying their efforts to ensure he receives proper medical care. Last week, Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered that he be admitted to Shifa Hospital in Islamabad.

But Imran was instead taken to the state-run PIMS for a medical check-up before being returned to prison. Imran’s sisters and sons have alleged that this amounted to a violation of the court order and have called for him to be allowed access to his personal doctor.

Pakistan did return to the field as scheduled after tea. The Pakistan government, meanwhile, rejected allegations that Imran had been mistreated in prison or denied access to his family and lawyers.

In a statement to the Associated Press last week, the government said that Imran had received more than 900 visits from family members, lawyers and doctors since his imprisonment in August 2023.
