Opening batter Imam-ul-Haq could face a two-year ban from international cricket for faking an injury during the second Test of the ongoing three-match Test series between England and Pakistan.

The left-handed batter was part of Pakistan’s playing XI for the second Test against Joe Root-led England at Lord’s, but he didn’t come out to bat in either innings due to a calf injury. He, in fact, didn’t take the field for Pakistan after the second session of the first day’s play at the Home of Cricket.

According to a report in Geo News on Wednesday, Imam, who scored a duck in the second innings of the first Test in Leeds, could potentially face a ban of up to two years over the controversy surrounding his injury.

As per sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formed a high-level investigation committee to investigate Imam’s injury. As per the available information, Imam, who has been accused of faking an injury in the past as well, could face a ban of a couple of years if found guilty.

Imam was previously accused of faking an injury in March 2025 during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand.

According to PCB sources, during Pakistan’s white-ball tour of New Zealand last year, Imam was hurt on his right toe during an indoor net session, but he fabricated, exaggerated or misrepresented his symptoms and misled the medical staff.

The left-handed batter was one of the seven players dropped from the Test squad by the PCB ahead of the third match in Birmingham, and he returned to Pakistan this week along with the likes of Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Rizwan and Ali Usman, among others.

It has also been reported that there are serious concerns over wicketkeeper-batter Rizwan’s discipline, and the PCB is likely to take strict action against him.

The Geo report stated that Rizwan’s Pakistan career is all but over, as he is unlikely to be picked for the senior national men’s team in the near future.

Rizwan, who was served as Pakistan’s white-ball captain in the past has faced a lot of criticism for his poor shot selection in the recent matches for the national team.
