Former Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has said that after not being handed bowling opportunities against arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, Kuldeep Yadav was left frustrated and eventually dropped an easy catch, that led to a furious reaction from then-captain Suryakumar.

Cameras captured Suryakumar frustrated with Kuldeep after a late dropped catch, while Hardik Pandya also appeared upset. The footage went viral on social media, prompting questions about whether everything was well within the Indian camp.

Months later, Suryakumar has shed light on what happened during that much-discussed moment.

“The match started and there was no time to bowl him. He was a little disappointed and wanted to bowl. I completed Axar’s spell and then bowled Tilak, Varun and Hardik," Suryakumar said while speaking on Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel.

“He was like, ‘Meri bowling kyu nahi aa rahi hai?’ There was a chance of a catch when he was at long-on. He ran very casually and it was an easy catch according to his skills," Suryakumar said.

“He dropped the catch and I got angry at that time. If he dropped the catch after making an effort, that is fine, but he didn’t put in any effort," Suryakumar added.

The former skipper later clarified that the apparent tension between him and Kuldeep wasn’t a serious fallout, despite how the exchange appeared on camera. Suryakumar explained that both cricketers were upset in the heat of the moment, but their reactions were part of the banter between them.

“When we met after the match, we looked at each other in anger. He turned red in anger and I also looked at him angrily. It looked like that on the screen, but it was banter," Suryakumar said.

“After landing in Ahmedabad, I got an idea about the reel. Sometimes it is good to lighten up the moment," Suryakumar added.
