HP: HPV vaccination given to 41 girls in special camp inBilaspur, May 24 (UNI) A special HPV vaccination camp was organized today under the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccination campaign through the Health and Family Welfare Department in District Bilaspur, in which 41 daughters were successfully vaccinated across the district, Deputy Commissioner Bilaspur Rahul Kumar said. He said that under the next phase of the campaign, this special HPV vaccination camp will be organized in 30 identified health institutions across the district on May 31, so that the eligible girls who are left out can also get the benefit of vaccination. He said that in Bilaspur district, HPV vaccination is being given to girls who have completed 14 years and are below 15 years of age to prevent cervical cancer. The Deputy Commissioner said that cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in India. He added that HPV vaccination will prove helpful in protecting daughters from serious diseases like cervical cancer in future.

He said that in Bilaspur district, HPV vaccination is being given to girls who have completed 14 years and are below 15 years of age to prevent cervical cancer.

Out of total 2,735 eligible girls in the district, 1,061 girls have been vaccinated till May 24 and a total of 39 per cent coverage has been achieved in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner said that cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in India. Every year about 1.2 to 1.3 lakh new cases are reported and about 75 to 80,000 women die due to this disease.

He said that HPV virus is the main cause of this cancer and effective protection can be obtained from it by timely vaccination. He added that HPV vaccination will prove helpful in protecting daughters from serious diseases like cervical cancer in future.
