Flow At Khairmal Likely To Rise
The increased discharge from Hirakud is expected to push the flow at Khairmal to around 7.5 lakh cusecs after the released water reaches the downstream stretch. Officials are keeping a close watch on the river system and assessing its impact on vulnerable areas along the Mahanadi basin.

The rise in inflow follows continuous rainfall in the upstream catchment over the past few days. Engineers are regulating the outflow based on the volume of water entering the reservoir and reviewing the gate operation accordingly to maintain a balanced discharge.
Administration Keeps Watch Downstream
With several districts still dealing with the flood situation in Odisha, the administration has stepped up monitoring along the downstream stretches of the Mahanadi. The people living near the river have been advised to remain alert and avoid venturing into the water.
