ADVs are all the rage right now and are emerging to be OEM’s default choice if they want to debut a new platform or a new engine or both. This is the path Hero MotoCorp has chosen for their upcoming big displacement ADV, rumoured to be called Xpulse 421 and rumoured to debut their new 421cc liquid-cooled engine.

The latest spy shots show the bike’s front fascia along with its LED headlight setup. This LED signature looks like it falls into the company’s family DNA of motorcycles and scooters. It follows a vertically stacked LED reflector chamber design, but could feature projectors too. There is a tall windshield at the front with a smoked effect.

The fairing extends all the way to its engine, which should offer decent wind protection for highway touring. Other protection include knuckle guards, an engine bash plate, front fork covers and more. Front forks could be USDs and we hope they are fully adjustable. Rear suspension is handled by a mono-shock setup.

Other notable elements include wire-spoke wheels, which we hope are compatible with tubeless tyres. We can see a sturdy-looking box-section swingarm, a robust-looking rear luggage rack with mountings for tail bags, an upswept exhaust which helps in water wading and the bike appears to have a single-piece seat with a scooped out section for rider.

It was interesting to note that Hero Xpulse 421 ADV test mules were being tested by Hero MotoCorp’s Dakar Rally team including star riders like Ross Branch and Nacho Cornejo. These Xpulse 421 (name not confirmed) test mules were accompanied by Hero’s 450cc Dakar rally race bike and a few Xpulse 210s and some looked like they had adjustable suspension with raised ground clearance.

The current largest air cooled engine that the company offers is a 440cc unit with Mavrick 440, current largest liquid cooled engine is 250cc and current largest engine with Xpulse family is a 210cc. When launched, Hero Xpulse 421 will lock horns with ADV tourers like KTM 390 Adventure and TVS Apache RTX 300 along with off-roaders like Royal Enfield Himalayan, Yezdi Adventure and the likes.
