Hero MotoCorp entered India’s premium maxi / sporty scooter segment with Xoom 160, taking on the popular Yamaha Aerox 155. Positioned as India’s first ADV scooter, Xoom 160 brings a distinctive proposition to the segment. Competition is set to intensify further with Honda expected to launch ADV160 in India soon.
Xoom 160 sales have started gaining traction and were marginally higher than Aerox 155 in June 2026. With Honda ADV160 incoming, Hero could now be preparing a more affordable variant of Xoom 160 to strengthen its positioning before competition intensifies.
Hero Xoom 160 VX More Affordable Variant
Currently, Hero Xoom 160 is offered in a single fully-loaded variant, priced at Rs 1,43,498. Interestingly, Hero’s website now lists this variant as Xoom 160 ZX. At the time of launch, Xoom 160 did not have a variant suffix and was simply sold as Xoom 160. The addition of the ZX name could indicate that Hero is preparing to expand the lineup. If Hero follows the variant strategy used with Xoom 110 and Xoom 125, a more affordable Xoom 160 VX could be introduced below the existing ZX.
To achieve a lower price point, the potential VX variant could miss some features available with the existing ZX. If Hero follows the strategy used with its other Xoom scooters, features such as smart key with keyless go and turn-by-turn navigation could be among those removed, while basic Bluetooth connectivity may be retained. Some convenience features could also be dropped to create sufficient price differentiation between VX and ZX.
A Higher-Spec Combat Edition Makes Sense
We experienced Xoom 160 during its media ride in Pune and found its overall package impressive. However, its older switchgear and relatively limited equipment compared to some newer Hero products made its pricing feel less aggressive than what buyers usually associate with the brand.
Hero has traditionally positioned the lower variants of its Xoom scooters aggressively. A similar strategy with Xoom 160 VX could substantially lower its entry price and make the ADV scooter more accessible to buyers considering Aerox 155 and the upcoming Honda ADV160.
At the other end of the lineup, there is also scope for Hero to introduce a more feature-rich Xoom 160 in the future. A potential Combat Edition could add features such as LED turn indicators, TFT instrumentation, newer switchgear and some of the electronics already available on Hero’s latest scooters. However, there is currently no indication from Hero regarding such a variant. Irrespective of the variant strategy, the engine is expected to remain unchanged. Xoom 160 uses a 156cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine producing 14.6 bhp and 14 Nm.
