After taking a look at the sales in SUV segment and Sedan segment, let us now take a look at the hatchback segment. Hatchbacks have registered positive year-on-year growth in June 2026, even as sales declined significantly on a month-on-month basis. The 16 hatchbacks covered in the sales data collectively registered 79,419 units during June 2026, compared to 67,725 units in June 2025. This represents an increase of 11,694 units or 17.27% YoY.

However, compared to May 2026, when these hatchbacks collectively registered 92,837 units, sales declined by 14.45%. On a quarterly basis, the picture was considerably stronger. Hatchback sales during Q2 CY2026 stood at 2,68,163 units, up 24.15% from 2,16,000 units registered during Q2 CY2025.

Hatchback Sales June 2026 – YoY and MoM

Maruti WagonR maintained its lead with 16,952 units, growing 31.11% YoY but declining 6.22% MoM. Swift followed with 15,215 units, up 14.61% YoY and down 13.15% MoM. Baleno sales increased 39.28% YoY to 12,488 units, although volumes fell sharply by 32.12% compared to May.

Alto was fourth with 10,388 units and emerged as one of the strongest YoY performers, registering 105.91% growth. It also improved 5.07% MoM. Tata Tiago / EV followed with 7,329 units, up 21.50% YoY and an impressive 75.42% MoM. Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS sales stood at 4,865 units, growing 14.82% YoY and 66.61% MoM. Toyota Glanza also remained positive on both parameters, with 3,512 units representing 19.54% YoY and 9.82% MoM growth.

Tata Altroz slipped 38.95% YoY and 16.78% MoM to 2,426 units. Hyundai i20 witnessed an even steeper decline, with its 1,828 units representing a 51.70% YoY and 61.51% MoM contraction. Celerio and S-Presso also posted declines on both parameters. Among lower-volume hatchbacks, MG Comet EV remained almost flat YoY at 857 units, while Citroen C3 grew 185.08% YoY and 80.36% MoM to 707 units. Renault Kwid improved 9.58% YoY and 64% MoM to 492 units. Citroen eC3 registered 71 units, down YoY but higher MoM.

Q2 2026 Hatchback Sales

During Q2 2026, hatchback sales reached 2,68,163 units, compared to 2,16,000 units in Q2 2025, resulting in strong 24.15% YoY growth. WagonR led with 53,676 units, up 33.22%, followed by Swift at 50,563 units, up 20.38%. Baleno registered 49,190 units with 45.69% growth, while Alto nearly doubled its sales to 31,131 units, up 99.29%.

Tiago / EV was fifth with 16,995 units, although volumes declined 17.96%. S-Presso recorded 12,626 units and strong 223.66% growth. Hyundai i20 improved 7.03% to 12,201 units, while Grand i10 NIOS declined 6.16% to 11,934 units. Glanza and Altroz declined 14.83% and 11.18%, respectively, whereas Celerio and MG Comet EV grew 22.37% and 24.44%. Citroen C3 recorded the highest percentage growth at 248.29%, although on a relatively small volume of 1,630 units.

OEM-wise Hatchback Sales June 2026 and Q2

OEM-wise breakup further highlights Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in India’s hatchback segment. In June 2026, Maruti registered 57,332 units, growing 27.10% YoY and commanding a massive 72.19% market share. Tata Motors was a distant second with 9,755 units and 12.28% share, although sales declined 2.51% YoY. Hyundai followed with 6,693 units, registering a sharper 16.57% decline. Toyota recorded 19.54% growth to 3,512 units, while Citroen posted the highest percentage growth at 124.21%, albeit from a low base.

The quarterly numbers make Maruti’s dominance even more evident. During Q2 2026, Maruti hatchback sales increased 39.34% YoY to 2,03,761 units, giving it a commanding 75.98% share. In comparison, Tata Motors registered 24,922 units, down 15.92%, while Hyundai remained almost flat at 24,135 units. Toyota declined 14.83% to 10,070 units. MG recorded 24.44% growth, while Citroen more than doubled its volumes with 137.23% growth. Overall hatchback sales increased by 24.15% YoY to 2,68,163 units in Q2 2026, with Maruti accounting for the overwhelming majority of the segment’s incremental volumes.
