Guru Randhawa’s has once again found himself at the centre of an online debate, this time over his latest music video, ‘Fine Shyt.’ Within days of its release, the music video became a talking point, with social media users calling out its workplace setting and alleged objectification of women.
While some users dismissed the song over its music and choreography, others questioned the decision to set the video in a corporate workplace and portray female employees dancing around Randhawa’s character.
What Is Guru Randhawa’s ‘Fine Shyt’ About?
The music video is set inside a corporate office, with Guru Randhawa portraying a senior professional during a seemingly routine workday. Several women, dressed as office employees, are seen dancing and performing around him as the song plays.
The video begins with a disclaimer clarifying that everyone featured is above 18 years of age and that the events shown are fictional. It also carries a tongue-in-cheek warning asking viewers not to recreate the moves at their workplace, suggesting that doing so could result in an HR ban.
However, the disclaimer has done little to prevent the video from becoming a subject of debate online.
An Instagram user, @sohasyap, shared a video criticising the concept and said, “Whenever i think ki Guru Randhawa ab isse bikaar video nahi bana sakta hai, he proves me wrong, kyuki now we are objectifying women in workplace."
She further said, “This setup was unnecessary and why are you not dancing in the video?"

The post also carried the text, “Already a taboo for women to peacefully work in corporate Normalizing uncles to hit on pretty female coworkers."
Another message on the post said, “This office setup should have been completely avoided, working women should not be promoted as this. This video could been shot in a cool aesthetic set, with same energy."
User Explains Criticism Of The Video
The Instagram user later addressed people defending the singer and explained that the criticism was not directed at the women featured in the video.
“For all the people who are having audacity to defend him. 1) ITS NOT ABOUT BEING NARROW MINDED – I love the dance nd costumes but hate fact that it is being presented as working women being desperate and dancing around a guy. 2) Why don’t you question foreign artists like this? – Guru is such a big artist, and his videos impact India on such a big level, this video someway or tne other will leave a message. & When did I ever support this behavior of any other foreign artist?
3) What about the girls who are dancing? – THEY ARE MAKING A LIVING, BLAME THE DIRECTOR ND ARTIST not the girls. 4) All I am saying this video had to meaning or plot to be shot in a way like this this entire thing could have been presented on a pretty set."
The post gained traction, prompting users to share their own views on the song and its presentation.
One user wrote, “Straight up noise pollution."
Another predicted that the song could still become a social media trend despite the criticism, saying, “Get ready to see this trash song become a trend and have infinite dance reels on it."
A third user sarcastically commented, “Another win for the deaf."
One Hindi-language comment read, “Ye gaana sunne se pehle mere kaan ke parde kyu nahi fat gaye (Why did my ears not stop working before I heard this song)?"
Another user took a political dig at the singer, writing, “Guru Randhawa istifa do," referencing recent student protests demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Other social media users also weighed in on the portrayal of women and the choreography.
“For him dance is just twerking or maybe some other weird steps," said one user.
“Workplace is different from School. Also from disclaimer it seems like he didn’t got the point. He thinks ppl are angry that he used a schoolgirl, instead of understanding that ppl are angry about using schoolgirl as a crush for older guy as a concept. That said don’t use that argument in the concept of a video where Adult women are shown. Women have made MVs depicting working women doing explicit acts more than this, said another.
“Women dancing in the video should know better, why target only one person?" said a third.
“We are already told to not go out of house to not do jobs in private companies and then his music comes up with this brainrot reinforcing society to convince that women will be treated this way at workplaces too," said a fourth.
“Am I the only one that didn’t like the choreography. It looks so shit and aggressive," said another.
“He is proudly earning streaotypes about objectification of women in punjabi music industry 🤡" said one more user.
