GTA 6 Pre Orders Estimated to Reach $260 Million – Grand Theft Auto 6 has launched what analysts describe as the strongest pre-order campaign ever recorded. The hotly anticipated title grossed an estimated $260 million in digital pre-orders globally in its first week, including roughly $180 million in the United States and the five largest European markets of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, according to gaming analytics firm Newzoo. Based on current pre-order trends, Newzoo forecasts GTA 6 could generate between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion in launch-week revenue when it releases in November 2026.

Newzoo Predicts a Historic Launch Week

Newzoo’s estimates are based on digital spending recorded during the final week of June. The company used GTA 5’s lifetime player distribution to estimate worldwide demand, noting that around 69% of GTA 5’s console players came from the six tracked markets. Applying the same ratio increases the regional pre-order total of $180 million to an estimated $260 million globally.

The research firm believes GTA 6 will likely follow the ‘proven sequel’ sales model, which means a large chunk of launch week revenue will be generated through early pre-orders. In that case, the first week of pre-orders accounts for around 5.8% of all sales in the first week of the launch. According to that model, Newzoo projects GTA 6 could bring in around $4.5 billion in sales in its first week, which would be around 51 million units sold at an average selling price of $88.

Even under a more conservative forecast that assumes GTA 6’s sales are more heavily front-loaded than other major games, Newzoo still expects the title to generate roughly $3.3 billion in launch-week revenue, representing about 37 million units sold.

Analysts debunk viral $1 billion pre-order claims

Newzoo also took the opportunity to dispel viral social media reports that GTA 6 had already reached $1 billion in pre-orders months before its release. The company disputed those numbers, stating that historical pre-order trends don’t support such numbers and most pre-order revenue is usually generated closer to launch.

The projections highlight the enormous demand for Rockstar Games’ next big release, over a decade after the launch of GTA 5. With record-breaking early pre-order activity and strong consumer interest across major markets, GTA 6 is positioned to deliver one of the biggest entertainment launches in history. If current trends continue, the game could set new industry records when it arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in November 2026.

Newzoo – Ronan Patrick of Newzoo said GTA 6 delivered the largest first-week pre-order launch the company has ever recorded, calling demand unusually strong this far ahead of release. He added that no game in past pre-order trends has reached $1 billion in sales 21 weeks before launch, making those social media claims unrealistic.

MSN – GTA 6 is widely expected to surpass GTA 5’s record of earning $1 billion in sales within three days, potentially becoming the fastest-selling entertainment product ever. Analysts also estimate the game’s development budget at $1 billion to $1.5 billion, which could make it the most expensive video game ever produced.

GamesIndustry – Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick declined to reveal GTA 6’s exact development cost but acknowledged the project was expensive. He also defended the game’s $80 price, saying players are willing to pay more when they believe a title offers exceptional value, fueling industry debate over future AAA game pricing.

IGN – GTA 5 has now sold nearly 230 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games ever, though Minecraft remains the global leader with more than 400 million copies sold. GTA 6’s launch will be limited to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no physical disc included in boxed editions.

Video Games Chronicle – Industry discussions suggest GTA 6’s premium pricing could influence future AAA game launches. Some retailers have reportedly chosen not to stock the game because boxed copies only include a download code instead of a physical disc, while IGN also highlighted Rockstar’s release of 63 new official GTA 6 screenshots.
