The Chennai police have registered a fresh case against ‘Gem Granites’ R. Veeramani under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police sources said on Monday (September 28, 2026).
The second case was registered based on a complaint lodged by a woman alleging that her daughter, a minor, was sexually abused by the businessman.
The police booked Veeramani (85) under the POCSO Act and are likely to formally arrest the granite baron, who is already lodged in the Puzhal prison in connection with a different POCSO Act case.
Investigators were also probing a complaint lodged by a woman who alleged her daughter who was abused by Veeramani had ended her life.
In his petition, Mr. Baalu recalled Mr. Arjuna’s allegation that the DMK had protected Mr. Veeramani and closed the case against him.

The police are investigating the statements given by three other women who claimed they were subjected to sexual abuse by the businessman in the past, sources added.
Investigators were also probing a complaint lodged by a woman who alleged her daughter who was abused by Veeramani had ended her life. The incident occurred many years ago. The complaint said though she lodged a complaint with the local police then no action was taken, the sources said.

Summon CM, Minister for questioning: T.R. Baalu
In a related development, DMK treasurer T.R. Baalu on Monday submitted a petition to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case, urging it to summon Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and his Cabinet colleagues Aadhav Arjuna and C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar and seek the evidence supporting their allegations against the DMK in the case.
In his petition, Mr. Baalu recalled Mr. Arjuna’s allegation that the DMK had protected Mr. Veeramani and closed the case against him. “Mr. Nirmal Kumar alleged that the DMK received ₹500 crore from the industrialist. The allegations are false and have been made to defame DMK leaders. If the two Ministers possess evidence in this case, why have they not handed it over to the officials probing the case,” he asked.
Mr. Baalu said details from the case diary had been made available unofficially and were being circulated outside. “The allegations made by the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues are directly connected with the case. The SIT should obtain the details and evidence from them,” he added.
