Samsung Electronics is reportedly planning to change the way it names its top-tier foldable phones this summer. While the company is expected to introduce a new shorter and wider model under the “Wide” moniker, it is also possible that Samsung could adopt a completely different naming strategy for its premium foldables.

Samsung’s next-generation foldable lineup is expected to include the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the clamshell-style Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Under the new naming scheme, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra would replace last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 as the company’s flagship foldable. Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 branding is expected to go to the wider design that has already appeared in leaks. However, the wider screen design may come with a compromise, as the device could reportedly skip one of the rear cameras, similar to the Galaxy S25 Edge.

According to Android Headlines, the addition of the “Ultra” branding could spark debate, especially since leaks suggest the upcoming foldable may omit some signature features, such as a built-in S Pen slot and the unique privacy display technology.

Despite that, the device is still expected to bring several major upgrades over the Fold 7. Reported improvements include a larger 5,000mAh battery, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and faster 45W wired charging. The jump to 45W charging would mark a notable upgrade over Samsung’s previous 25W limit.

Tipsters also claim that the redesigned hinge and chassis could help further reduce the visibility of the display crease.

Meanwhile, a budget-friendly FE foldable model does not currently appear to be part of Samsung’s roadmap.
