Ford is set to return to the top class of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027 with a factory-supported Hypercar programme. The reveal is a signal of Ford’s ambition to once again fight for overall victories, reviving one of motorsport’s most famous legacies almost 60 years after its legendary Le Mans success.

What’s the Difference with the Ford Racing Le Mans Hypercar?
The new Hypercar is built around a naturally aspirated 5.4-liter Coyote-based V8 engine, entirely developed in-house at Ford. The powerplant is said by the engineers to have the same DNA as the engines used in the Mustang Dark Horse R, GT4 and GT3 race cars, but has been specifically engineered for endurance competition.

Ford Racing officials also have emphasised that a key goal during development was preservation of the unmistakable sound and identity of a Ford race car. Meet The Man Behind Ford’s Hypercar Programme?
Ford has put together an experienced leadership team for the ambitious project. Chassis will be supplied by ORECA, one of the most successful constructors in endurance racing. Dan Sayers, who has been working with Red Bull Ford Powertrains, has been appointed Hypercar Programme Manager.
Ford has also confirmed a number of experienced drivers for the programme including Mike Rockenfeller, Sebastian Priaulx, Logan Sargeant, Matt Campbell, Nick Yelloly and Tom Blomqvist. Many have plenty of prototype racing experience from IMSA, Le Mans and Formula 1 giving Ford a solid base before its competitive debut in 2027.
