Fiat India waved goodbye to Indian retail sales some time in 2019 and the company has not re-established a retail presence here ever since. However, we recently got to see a Fiat test mule spied testing in Bengaluru with heavy camouflage. This was a pleasant surprise as it was also spied globally as F2X SUV.

Now, Fiat has debuted the production version of F2X SUV in both SUV and coupe versions called Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback. Both these SUVs are set to launch in global markets by 2026 end and the million dollar question is whether it will launch in India and kickstart Fiat’s India operations.

Fiat Grizzly Global SUV Debuts

Both Fiat Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback are based on the Grande Panda, but are positioned above it, in the global lineup. Fiat is touting Grizzly as a versatile SUV for family use and is a primary rival of Renault Bigster with around 4.5m length. The platform underpinning Fiat Grizzly is Stellantis’ Smart Car architecture.

This architecture also underpins Fiat Grande Panda, (global) Citroen C3, Citroen Aircross and even Opel Frontera. We can see some Citroen influence in the design too, especially with the rear doors and C Pillars. Speaking of design, we can see squared off wheel arches, fascia and bonnet along with an illuminated grille, geometrical design for alloy wheels and connected style LED tail lights.

Only Fiat Grizzly Fastback gets a sloping coupe roofline and it sort of looks like an evolved Citroen Basalt. Grizzly Fastback gets it own wheel designs too. Other notable elements with both are Black painted body claddings, faux skid plates, clamshell bonnets, conventional door handles, high ground clearance, conventional antenna and more.

Interiors of both Fiat Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback are yet to be revealed, but refined interiors and segment-leading cargo space are promised. Looking at these SUVs, we wish Fiat made a comeback in India as the market has matured and boomed quite a bit now. There were rumours of Fiat making a comeback, but are not officially confirmed.

Powertrains, Specs

Fiat Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback are powered by multiple powertrains including Petrol, Petrol Mild Hybrids and pure EVs. Petrol and Petrol Mild Hybrid powertrains are expected to be based on Stellantis’ 1.2L Turbo Petrol engine. Even the EV versions could borrow battery pack and drivetrains from other Stellantis offerings.

In Fiat’s global lineup, Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback are expected to indirectly replace Fiat Tipo, Pulse and Fastback. Europe, Middle East, Latin America and Africa are some of the expected markets where Fiat Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback SUVs may launch by 2026 end.
