Elon Musk wanted to have “a legion of children before the civil war", his former partner Ashley St Clair has claimed in a new documentary about the billionaire.

St Clair, who has a son with Musk, said he made the remark in a text message before the birth of their child in 2024. Her claims were reported by The Guardian following the documentary’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The four-hour documentary, ‘Musk’, is directed by veteran film-maker Alex Gibney and examines the tech billionaire’s personal life, business empire and growing political influence.

Ex-partner alleges $40m silence offer

St Clair also claimed that Musk’s team offered her $40 million in a lump sum, along with a monthly payment of $100,000, if she agreed to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

She said she rejected the deal and chose not to remain silent about her relationship with Musk.

In a June podcast interview, St Clair alleged that Musk’s wealth manager, Jared Birchall, initially discussed financial support for a home before later raising the possibility of a non-disclosure agreement.

Musk has not publicly responded to the claims in the documentary.

St Clair accuses Musk of fuelling division

St Clair, a former supporter of Donald Trump, also criticised Musk’s use of X, saying his activity on the platform was contributing to political division.

“Whatever it is, what he’s doing with this platform on X cannot be ignored, because he is stoking flames that don’t exist in the real world," she said at the Venice premiere, according to The Guardian.

She alleged that Musk was creating real-world effects through posts and interactions on X and said the division could become “catastrophic" without regulation.

“I do believe that he is causing deliberate division that may be catastrophic if it’s not regulated or tamed, or if we don’t do our part in putting it down," she said.

Gibney said Musk’s focus on civilisational collapse could be linked to his difficult childhood in South Africa, while describing the film as an examination of Musk’s rise from technology entrepreneur to one of the world’s most powerful businessmen.

The documentary, filmed over three years, covers Musk’s companies, including Tesla, SpaceX and Starlink, as well as his political involvement and relationship with Trump.

‘Musk’ premiered in Venice on Tuesday and is scheduled to open in cinemas on October 16.
