Meanwhile, Toxic has opened to a massive response from Yash fans across the globe. The film earned over Rs 140 crore globally on its Day 1, while its India gross stands at Rs 120 crore. Despite the negative reviews, the film had a promising opening day collection.

Videos from theatres in Bengaluru showed fans dancing to dhol beats, while several-foot-long cutouts of Yash decorated with enormous garlands were erected outside cinema halls. Large posters and elaborate decorations added to the celebratory atmosphere surrounding the release.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is co-written by Geetu and Yash. The gangster drama, produced by Yash’s Monster Minds and KVN Productions, also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.

The film’s advance bookings opened on August 21, five days before its theatrical release, and recorded strong demand. Several exhibitors subsequently added early-morning and late-night shows to accommodate the interest.

The release has also been accompanied by a piracy controversy. On August 25, hours before the film reached theatres, the makers issued a warning against piracy and sharing spoilers online. Despite the appeal, intimate scenes featuring Yash and Kiara Advani were leaked online. Later, some of the videos were taken down.
