The survey identified as many as 3,768 dilapidated school buildings and 83,783 dilapidated classrooms.
The dilapidated building of a government primary school in Rampura-Kanwarpura village near Rajasthan’s capital, Jaipur, where the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activists were allegedly thrashed and chased out last month, was razed on Wednesday (September 2, 2026) to make way for a new structure. The school was declared unsafe after a technical survey in September 2025.

The old building of the Rampura-Kanwarpura school, constructed in 1985, was bulldozed in the presence of district administration and Education Department officials. The State government has sanctioned ₹18 lakh, including ₹6 lakh from the MLA local area development fund, for the construction of new building.
The school came into spotlight on August 21 following a confrontation between a team of CJP activists and the villagers during a visit to highlight its condition. The CJP alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers had attacked its members, while villagers accused the visiting group of intimidating residents. Both the sides lodged complaints against each other, after which the first information reports were registered.
CJP leader Ashutosh Ranka described the State government’s decision to construct a new building as a major victory for the students. “This is the same school that was running in the buffalo shed… During the inspection, stones were thrown at us, women were beaten, and car windows were smashed. But when a good school is built for our children, it will all be worth it!” Mr. Ranka said.
Action plan
Following a technical safety audit of 65,308 government schools in the State, the Education Department has proposed an action plan worth ₹12,335.90 crore to strengthen the school infrastructure during the next five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The survey identified as many as 3,768 dilapidated school buildings and 83,783 dilapidated classrooms.
Additional Chief Secretary (School Education) Rajesh Yadav said that a committee of civil engineering experts from Indian Institute of Technology-Jodhpur and Malviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, has been constituted for independent technical safety investigation of government school buildings. The report and recommendations of IIT-Jodhpur have been received.
Mr. Yadav said an investment of ₹3,000 crore would be made this year for strengthening the school infrastructure. In the action plan for the next five years, ₹2,487.75 crore will be spent on the construction of 3,587 new school buildings, and ₹1,129.45 crore on major repairs of 22,589 schools.
