/ 9 Delhi-NCR Weather News: Residents of Delhi-NCR are likely to experience a week of rapidly changing weather, with intense heat, humidity, thunderstorms, gusty winds and spells of rain forecast across the region. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the capital and its neighbouring cities could witness fluctuating conditions from June 16 to June 21, with June 20 and 21 expected to be the most active weather days. The forecast comes as the to inch closer to the national capital, while strong pre-monsoon activity and an active western disturbance influence weather patterns across northwest India.

/ 9 The IMD has indicated that Delhi-NCR could face contrasting weather conditions over the coming days. Bright sunshine and high humidity are expected during the daytime, while evenings and nights may bring thunderstorms, strong winds and light to moderate rainfall. Several parts of Delhi received rainfall on Tuesday morning, highlighting the erratic nature of the current weather pattern. According to the forecast, wind speeds could reach 50 to 60 kmph during thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and occasional dust storms in isolated areas.

/ 9 Weather officials have identified June 20 and 21 as the period with the highest likelihood of adverse weather across Delhi-NCR. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds of up to 60 kmph and moderate rainfall are expected during these two days. Sudden changes in weather could reduce visibility, disrupt traffic and lead to localised waterlogging. Authorities have also cautioned that strong winds could uproot weak trees, damage old hoardings and temporarily affect power supply in some areas.

/ 9 Between June 17 and June 19, weather conditions are expected to become relatively clearer, although heat and humidity are likely to intensify. The maximum temperature during this period could range between 39°C and 41°C. However, the IMD says the respite from rain is expected to be short-lived, with another round of thunderstorms and showers likely from June 20 onwards.

/ 9 The changing weather pattern is expected to affect neighbouring NCR cities, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. Strong winds and light rainfall could continue across these areas until June 21, while dust storms remain a possibility in several locations.

/ 9 Meteorologists have also warned that humidity levels may increase after rainfall, making conditions feel warmer and more uncomfortable. If rain coincides with peak commuting hours, traffic congestion could worsen across major roads and highways in the region.

/ 9 According to the IMD, the frequent shifts in weather are being driven by an active western disturbance over northwest India, coupled with lower-level moisture-laden winds. The interaction of these systems is causing sudden changes between hot, sunny conditions and stormy weather, leading to significant fluctuations in temperature within a matter of hours. While the southwest monsoon has not officially reached Delhi-NCR, pre-monsoon activity remains strong and is expected to dominate the region's weather over the next few days.

/ 9 The IMD has clarified that the monsoon has not formally advanced into Delhi-NCR. However, atmospheric conditions are gradually becoming favourable for its arrival in the coming days. Until then, residents can expect a mix of heat, humidity, gusty winds, thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall.
