A day after Kuwait inked a joint defence and military cooperation agreement with Pakistan aimed at expanding coordination between their armed forces, the Gulf country on Friday held a key dialogue with India focused on bolstering bilateral defence cooperation across a wide range of areas, including training, military exercises, industry, and research and development.
"The inaugural meeting of the India-Kuwait Joint Defence Committee (JDC) held in New Delhi marked an important step towards operationalising the objectives outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation between the two countries, signed during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kuwait in December 2024," PTI quoted the defence ministry as saying in a statement.

The meeting was co-chaired by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary in the Defence Ministry, and Brigadier General Raed Alsakran, who led the five-member Kuwaiti delegation.
The Indian delegation included representatives from the three armed forces, the Department of Defence Production, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Armed Forces Medical Services and the Ministry of External Affairs.

According to an official statement, the two sides reviewed matters of mutual interest, with discussions centred on bilateral defence relations, security cooperation and ways to further deepen military ties.

"Under the new agreement, the Armed Forces of Pakistan will extend assistance to the Armed Forces of Kuwait in diverse fields, including training, capacity building, border management and other mutually agreed areas of defence collaboration," it said.
India-Kuwait strategic partnership
India and Kuwait share traditionally warm and friendly relations, underpinned by historical, economic and cultural ties.
The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1962. Their ties were elevated to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Kuwait in December 2024.
Geographical proximity, longstanding trade links, cultural connections and the presence of a large Indian community in Kuwait have continued to strengthen the countries’ longstanding and multifaceted relationship.
