Cyclone threat looms over Odisha, low pressure likey to form today

With a fresh weather system moving into the Andaman Sea, questions are now being raised over whether Odisha could face another cyclone threat.

An active cyclonic circulation over northern Thailand has moved westwards and entered the Andaman Sea. The system is likely to develop into a low-pressure area by Saturday evening, according to the latest weather forecast.

The system is subsequently expected to strengthen and move west-northwestwards. Subsequently, it may develop into a depression and is likely to move towards the coastal areas of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Odisha is likely to experience widespread thunderstorms and rainfall on Saturday. A yellow warning has been issued across the state.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, while several other districts may receive light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms.

However, there is no clear indication yet on whether the developing system will intensify into a cyclonic storm. Weather experts said the situation and its likely impact will become clearer after the low-pressure area forms.

Southern Odisha Braces For Another Rain Spell

Over the following three to four days, the low-pressure area is expected to move towards the coast of southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh. Its movement could bring another spell of rain to southern parts of Odisha.
