Congress leader shot dead by bike-borne men in Karnataka, incident caught on CCTV

The man then pulls out a gun and fires several shots at the Congress leader from point-blank range. The armed attacker's aide immediately rushed in on a motorbike and the duo fled the scene.

Meanwhile, the attack left D'Souza critically injured. He succumbed to his wound while being shifted to a hospital.

The motive behind the killing was not immediately known. Police have launched an investigation and are working to identify and trace the attackers.

The shooting sent shock waves through the local political and business circles, as D'Souza was a well-known figure in the region.

Senior police officers reached the spot soon after the incident and began collecting evidence. Later, the prime suspect in the case was arrested after an encounter with the police near Byndoor.

The accused, identified as Raju, is a native of Uttar Pradesh and sustained a gunshot injury to his right leg after police opened fire in self-defence when he allegedly attacked them, news agency ANI reported on Saturday, citing the police.

He is currently undergoing treatment. A Sub-Inspector was also injured in the exchange of fire and has been admitted to a private hospital.

The police have identified two other suspects in the case and have launched a manhunt to catch them.
