Stand-up comedian Abijit Ganguly shared an incident from a recent flight to Kolkata involving a fellow passenger who was unhappy with her assigned middle seat so much so that she complained to the cabin crew when people refused to exchange seats with her. The account of the incident has left people on the internet with mixed feelings.
In a post on X, Ganguly revealed how the woman, who had the middle seat, had kept her belongings on his aisle seat before boarding was complete. Upon seeing it, he politely asked her to remove the items so he could take his seat, but felt she reacted as though he had caused her an inconvenience.
“People are so funny man. In today’s flight to Kolkata, a girl was sitting in the middle seat. I was in aisle and when I came all her stuff was on my seat. I asked politely can she remove her stuff. She did so looking like I’ve given her greatest inconvenience," he wrote.
“So Effin Annoying"
The situation took a turn when the passenger occupying the window seat arrived. The comedian said that the woman immediately asked him if he would swap seats with her but he declined.
She then turned to Ganguly and asked if he would exchange his aisle seat for her middle seat. He said he also refused the request. “I also refused because even the ask was with a tone of entitlement," he mentioned.
The woman then called a member of the cabin crew and complained that she did not want to sit in a middle seat between two men. She even requested that the airline arrange an alternative seat for her. The situation was eventually resolved when the passenger in the window seat agreed to swap seats with her.
He ended the post, saying, “Arre bhai, agar itna hai toh le liye karo dusri seat. What is this behaviour of the world owes you everything. So effin annoying. Right now playing vidoes on full volume that too." He added, “Kya log hai yaar."
Internet Has Mixed Reactions To The Incident

“The sense of entitlement is seriously disgusting. People even ask to swap the ‘paid seats’ giving random reasons," a person mentioned.
“Funny that she can afford to fly but can’t afford a pair of earbuds or headphones. Or might have forgotten to pack them because she was carrying so much stuff that she needed an extra seat to keep them on," an individual remarked.

A different user commented, “Such people should never be accommodated. And you have every right to tell her to use earphones and not disturb others."
Meanwhile, someone said, “NGL irrespective of her tone or attitude, her point was correct. Any women wouldn’t want to sit in between two unknown men. This was not an entitlement issue. You could have easily swapped but you also showed unnecessary ego. Also you give no proof just portraying her in bad light by saying her stuff was on seat and playing music loudly etc.."
