Vijay Varma seems to have a message for those who unfollowed him on Instagram over his recent posts supporting the ongoing students’ protest over the NEET paper leak controversy. The actor, who has been among the few Bollywood celebrities to publicly support the movement, shared a cryptic post on his Instagram Stories on Sunday. Alongside his gif, Vijay wrote in Hindi, “Chup chap bhi unfollow kar sakte ho.. sab batana nahi hota (sic)," followed by a laughing emoji.

The post comes days after Vijay used his social media to back students protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the NEET paper leak controversy. He also voiced support for education reformer and activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike demanding accountability over the alleged exam paper leaks and broader reforms in the education system. The protests have drawn nationwide attention, with students demanding action against those responsible and calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Vijay had also taken a dig at Pradhan by sharing his photo on his Instagram feed.

What is the NEET paper leak controversy?

The NEET-UG 2026 medical entrance exam has been mired in controversy after allegations of a question paper leak and tampered OMR sheets, which the National Testing Agency has itself admitted to, with the CBI now investigating an alleged leak racket.

The anger fed into the Cockroach Janta Party, a satirical youth movement founded on May 16 by Abhijeet Dipke after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant compared unemployed young people to “cockroaches," which grew into a protest platform. Sonam Wangchuk joined CJP’s sit-in at Jantar Mantar on June 28 with an indefinite hunger strike demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. On July 20, thousands marched toward Parliament in CJP’s “Sansad Chalo" protest. The march witnessed clashes between protesters and police, with videos showing lathi-charge, tear gas shelling and injuries to several students and policemen.

Celebrities who have come out in support of the students

Hrithik Roshan shared an emotional video expressing solidarity with students and calling for transparency in the examination process. Sonakshi Sinha, too, has voiced her support for the students. Veteran actors Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman, Naseeruddin Shah and Abhay Deol have also urged the government to engage in dialogue with Sonam Wangchuk. Actor Atul Kulkarni observed a one-day hunger strike in support of the activist, while filmmaker Pa Ranjith condemned the action against protesters and voiced his solidarity.
