Google Chrome continues to face new security threats and now a major warning alert has been issued by the Indian government this month. The new series of security risks affect millions of users in India who use Chrome on their Windows or macOS systems.

The major risk alert has been issued by the Indian government this month via the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) with a high severity ranking which is never good news and will have people worried about their safety.

What Is the Major Chrome Security Alert?

Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Chrome which could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system." the security bulletin from CERT-In highlighted.

“Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to Use after free in Ozone, Views, InterestGroups, Extensions, Autofill, Actor, Payments, Input, Core, WebRTC, Forms and IndexedDB; Uninitialized use in V8 and ANGLE; Integer overflow in Extensions API; Out-of-bounds read and write in Codecs; Insufficient input validation of WebAppInstalls and Codecs; Insufficient data validation in DOM and Navigation; Insufficient policy enforcement in Passwords and Navigation; and Inappropriate implementation in GetUserMedia, Forms and WebGL."

In simple words, if the attacker manages to bypass the security of the system and exploit these issues, they can get the victim to visit a targeted malicious website which can be very dangerous.

So, if you are using Chrome on either Windows, macOS or a Linux machine, you need to make sure these versions of the browser are not running on your system:

Google Chrome versions prior to 150.0.7871.114/.115 for Windows and Mac

Google Chrome versions prior to 150.0.7871.114 for Linux

What Should Users Do About Chrome Security?

To be safe, users must download the latest available software update for Google Chrome on Windows, macOS and Linux.

You can do this by heading over to the three-dot menu on Chrome – Settings – About – Update Chrome. Google has listed the security fixes that come with the stable channel update.

Chrome is extremely popular among users and the recent updates have made Gemini AI work through the browser. So any level of risk facing Chrome will not only leave you vulnerable to data leaks but also crucial information being stolen.
