Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has claimed that China is not happy with Pakistan and is stepping back from mining projects in Balochistan. In a video, Fazlur Rehman can be heard making the remarks while speaking about Pakistan’s mineral resources, mining projects, economic dependence and sovereignty.

Fazlur Rehman said China is stepping back from mining projects in Balochistan. However, he said some of the major flagship mining projects in the province, including Reko Diq and Saindak, are working properly.

His remarks come alongside questions over whether Pakistan is actually benefiting from its mineral resources.

Fazlur Rehman questioned who is mining Reko Diq and where the resources extracted from the project are going.

The JUI-F chief said Pakistan is not the real beneficiary of its mineral resources. He raised questions about how the country’s mineral wealth is being utilised and who ultimately benefits from the resources.

At the same time, he said major flagship mining projects such as Reko Diq and Saindak are working properly.

Fazlur Rehman also criticised the performance of the Saindak project in Balochistan. He said the project has failed to deliver despite decades of work.

Fazlur Rehman also criticised the government-military policies in Pakistan.

He said political slavery continues to exist in some forms in Pakistan, adding that only its shape has changed.

The JUI-F chief further said global institutions continue to influence Pakistan’s sovereignty.

According to Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan’s sovereignty remains subject to the influence of global institutions.

He also pointed to Pakistan’s economic dependence on international lenders, saying the country remains economically dependent on the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and other lenders.

Speaking about Pakistan’s political and economic situation, Fazlur Rehman said political slavery has not disappeared entirely but continues in different forms.

He said the shape of political slavery has changed, while arguing that global institutions still exercise influence over Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Fazlur Rehman also highlighted Pakistan’s dependence on the IMF, World Bank and other lenders as part of his criticism of the country’s economic position.

The JUI-F chief also spoke against dividing provinces as a solution to Pakistan’s problems.

He said dividing provinces is not the solution to the country’s problems. He said proposals for new provinces should instead be judged on the basis of ground realities and practical feasibility.
