The 18th BRICS Summit will bring together leaders from about 30 BRICS member and partner countries, heads of international organisations and business representatives from BRICS nations, including India, according to the ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions.
The Delhi government’s general administration department also declared September 11 a holiday for all government offices, autonomous bodies and PSUs under the Delhi government.
Foreign delegations are scheduled to stay at 10 luxury hotels — nine in central Delhi and one in Saket in south Delhi — where heavy security arrangements will be put in place.
The Delhi Traffic Police plan to deploy nearly 4,800 personnel and have prepared an elaborate traffic management plan for the event.
The Centre and Delhi government have ordered the closure of government offices, autonomous bodies and public sector undertakings (PSUs) in view of the summit at Bharat Mandapam. Traffic restrictions and diversions are expected across several parts of central, south and southwest Delhi.

“...Recognising the magnitude of this event, the substantial logistical arrangements involved and to minimise inconvenience to the general public, it has been decided to keep the central government offices in Delhi/New Delhi closed on Friday, the 11th of September 2026 (12th and 13th of September being Saturday and Sunday respectively,” the ministry’s order said.
The Delhi government’s general administration department also declared September 11 a holiday for all government offices, autonomous bodies and PSUs under the Delhi government.

Traffic curbs, VVIP movement According to a Delhi Police officer, traffic police have planned elaborate arrangements involving restrictions and diversions to ensure smooth movement of VVIP motorcades. The movement is likely to affect vehicular traffic on at least 22 key corridors in central, south and southwest Delhi.
Foreign delegations are scheduled to stay at 10 luxury hotels — nine in central Delhi and one in Saket in south Delhi — where heavy security arrangements will be put in place.
Most foreign delegations are expected to arrive in Delhi on September 11, requiring frequent movement of motorcades between Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and designated hotels. Motorcade movements on a working day could lead to brief stoppages of traffic on designated routes, causing delays for motorists, the officer said.

“Closing all government offices on September 11 is a welcome step as it will reduce the burden on traffic and security personnel deployed for the BRICS Summit. Fewer people will face problems on restricted and diverted routes, and congestion will come down,” the officer added.
HT has reported that Delhi’s traffic could remain under pressure for at least four days due to the BRICS Summit, even as the city is already grappling with infrastructure and road repair projects. The Delhi Traffic Police plan to deploy nearly 4,800 personnel and have prepared an elaborate traffic management plan for the event.
A detailed traffic advisory will be issued ahead of the summit, listing the restrictions, diversions and alternate routes.
