A young woman jumped into the Chenab river from the Prem Nagar bridge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda after telling people around her that she had decided to end her life. Her final words to her father over the phone were reportedly, “Bye Bye Papa”.
The woman, identified as Payal Devi, daughter of Krishan Lal, had gone to a fair and was returning home on a bike with a known person from her village when the incident occurred.

According to reports, Payal’s dupatta got stuck in the motorcycle while the two were returning from the fair. The person riding the bike stopped the two-wheeler to remove the dupatta.
Payal then reportedly moved towards the edge of the Prem Nagar bridge and told those present that she was going to end her life.
People on the bridge tried to reason with her and requested her not to take the step. The biker also called her father and informed him about what was happening.
Her father spoke to her over the phone and tried to intervene. However, Payal reportedly told him that it was her life and that she had decided to end it. Her last words to her father were reportedly, “Bye bye Papa”, after which she jumped into the Chenab river.
Following the incident, local residents, police teams and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a search operation to trace Payal.
However, her body has not been found so far. Search efforts are continuing to locate her in the Chenab.
