BYD’s flash chargers offer a single-gun DC power of up to 1,500 kW. As a result, vehicles with the second-gen Blade Battery can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes. The 10-to-97% charge takes nine minutes. The Shenzhen-headquartered automaker currently operates 12,165 flash chargers across China. It plans to deploy 20,000 charging stations globally by the end of 2026.
BYD’s flash chargers
As CarNewsChina found out at the Paris Auto Show, BYD plans to build 100 flash chargers in Europe by the end of 2026. It deployed the first charger in Germany in June. There are also flash chargers in other European countries, including the UK. The Denza Z9 GT station wagon is the only BYD-made car in Europe capable of flash charging. However, more vehicles with this tech are expected in the local market.

BYD will introduce the all-electric Atto 8 EV crossover to the European market in Q1 2027. This seven-seater will become the first flash-charging model with a BYD badge for the given region. It comes standard with a 115 kWh LFP battery. It powers two electric motors with a peak power of 570 kW (764 hp, 775 ps). The car’s WLTP range is 653 km.
According to BYD, more models with flash charging will reach Europe next year, following the Atto 8. So, it’s not a surprise that the company plans to ramp up the number of 1,500 kW charging stations in Europe to 3,000 units by the end of 2027. Interestingly, this region will account for 50% of the planned overseas flash charging network for 2027, which comprises 6,000 stations.
