Fact CheckA reverse image search of one of the keyframes of the viral video led us to a compilation of similar videos from Patna posted by media outlet Republic on June 14.
A comparison between a frame from the viral video and a frame from the Republic video establishes that they were filmed at the same place.
In a fact-check post on X, they called it “probably some old video” and informed users that the Hydrogen train was running as per schedule.
As thousands of youth supporters of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) marched towards the Parliament on July 20 demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and clashed with Delhi Police, a video surfaced on social media where people can be seen pelting stones at a train inside a rail station. X User Janardan Mishra (@JanardanMis) shared the video and claimed that ‘cockroaches’ had pelted stones at a hydrogen train on their way to Jantar Mantar. “Hey, if you want to protest against the government, go ahead, but don’t damage the country’s property”, he said in his post.
BJP Rajya Sabha member and former chairperson of the National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma, amplified the post and wrote, “They are not students they are payed goons of anti indian forces in garb of CJP and it’s supporting political parties.” (Archive)

BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Sudhanshu Trivedi, too, made the same claim while sharing the video on Instagram.

Several other users on X, including BJP leader Tajinder Bagga, RSS mouthpiece Panchajanya, and pro-BJP users like Raushan Sinha and Rishi Bagree, shared the same video with the same claim. Some later deleted their posts.

Taking a cue from this, we performed a keyword search and found that the vandalism took place at the Patliputra station in Patna. Several other videos and reports of disgruntled students pelting stones at a blue train are available online.
According to a BBC report from June 14, a large number of Bihar Police constable aspirants gathered at Patliputra railway station, demanding special trains, triggering a commotion that escalated into stone-pelting and a police lathi-charge. The unrest briefly disrupted rail traffic, with several aspirants expressing frustration over the arrangements.
After the video went viral with false claims linking it to the July 20 CJP protests in Delhi, the official X handle of Northen Railway posted that the train in the video was not a hydrogen train. It was, in fact, powered by the WAG 12 loco. In a fact-check post on X, they called it “probably some old video” and informed users that the Hydrogen train was running as per schedule.

To sum up, an old video of vandalism at Patliputra rail station in Patna was falsely shared as CJP protestors attacking a newly launched hydrogen train in Delhi.
