Mohammad Shariful Islam, the accused in the stabbing of actor Saif Ali Khan, has approached a Mumbai court with an application to plead guilty.
His lawyer, Vipul Dushing, informed the court of his client’s willingness to plead guilty and request leniency.
The court has directed the prosecution to file its response and has adjourned the hearing to September 11.
Islam is alleged to have stabbed Khan repeatedly with a knife during a confrontation.
At the time of his arrest, Islam told the Mumbai Police that he stabbed Khan because the actor confronted him during the violent altercation.

The accused faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for robbery with a deadly weapon, causing grievous hurt, and house trespass. He also faces charges under the Foreigners Act and Passport (Entry into India) Rules. Additional sessions judge G.P. Deshmukh framed the charges earlier this month.
He had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The incident occurred on January 16, 2025, at the actor’s 12th-floor apartment in Bandra. Islam is alleged to have stabbed Khan repeatedly with a knife during a confrontation. The 54-year-old actor underwent emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital and was discharged after five days.
At the time of his arrest, Islam told the Mumbai Police that he stabbed Khan because the actor confronted him during the violent altercation. He was arrested two days after the incident.
