Vipraj Nigam, who could make his India debut on Tuesday against Japan in the historic one-off T20I, is accused in a case of sexual assault under the pretext of marriage and physical abuse allegedly occurring at a Noida hotel in July 2025. According to Jagran, the alleged victim of the case, a Hyderabad-based woman, sat outside Nigam’s house for hours on Sunday, saying she wanted to meet the cricketer, who is in Japan.

According to the report, the cricketer’s father spoke to the woman over the phone and assured her that they would talk after a week. The woman told the daily that she did not want to cause a ‘dispute’ and only wanted to speak to Nigam, who received his maiden international call-up as a replacement for the injured spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, and will also be part of the 2026 Asian Games squad.

Both Nigam and the woman have filed cases against each other. On November 8, 2025, Nigam filed a complaint at Barabanki Kotwali against the woman, alleging that she had been calling him from different mobile numbers and threatening to implicate him in a false case.

The woman subsequently lodged a complaint against Nigam at the Expressway Police Station in Gautam Buddha Nagar, accusing him of sexual exploitation. She alleged that the two met through social media in May 2025 and claimed Nigam lured her with a promise of marriage.

According to her complaint, he took her to a hotel in Noida on July 29, 2025, where he allegedly raped and assaulted her. The case was registered on December 16, 2025.

Nigam bowls spin and bats in the lower-middle order. The 22-year-old has played six First-Class matches for Uttar Pradesh and has been regular for DC, playing 19 matches and taking 13 wickets at an average of 36.07.
