Apple is reportedly preparing a major hardware refresh for late 2027, with plans that include camera-equipped AirPods, a second-generation foldable iPhone and a special iPhone model marking the 20th anniversary of the device.
While the company's first foldable iPhone is expected to arrive before then, Bloomberg reports that a second-generation model, codenamed V78, is already under development.
Another device in development is a commemorative iPhone model planned for the iPhone's 20th anniversary.
The anniversary devices, codenamed V73 and V74, are expected to follow the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and launch in similar sizes.
Both the anniversary iPhone and the second-generation foldable model are expected to be powered by Apple's A21 chip, which is reportedly being developed using a 2-nanometre manufacturing process.
Apple is reportedly preparing a major hardware refresh for late 2027, with plans that include camera-equipped AirPods, a second-generation foldable iPhone and a special iPhone model marking the 20th anniversary of the device.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the products are part of Apple's broader strategy around artificial intelligence-enabled hardware and are already in advanced stages of development.
One of the most notable products in the pipeline is a new version of AirPods featuring built-in computer-vision cameras. The cameras are not intended for photography or video recording. Instead, they are expected to help Siri understand a user's surroundings and provide responses based on visual context.
The AirPods project, internally known as B798, is reportedly designed to let users ask Siri about objects, places or items in their field of view. Apple has also explored capabilities such as contextual reminders and navigation assistance while walking. The device was previously expected to arrive earlier but is now reportedly targeted for a late-2027 launch.
Apple is also said to be moving ahead with its foldable smartphone plans. While the company's first foldable iPhone is expected to arrive before then, Bloomberg reports that a second-generation model, codenamed V78, is already under development. The report suggests Apple intends to make foldable iPhones a continuing product category with regular updates.
Another device in development is a commemorative iPhone model planned for the iPhone's 20th anniversary. Bloomberg reports that the handset could feature a nearly edge-to-edge display and curved glass extending around the sides.
The report also says Apple is testing future hardware alongside iOS 28 as it continues work on other AI-focused devices, including smart glasses and additional wearable products.
Apple has not officially announced any of the reported products.
