Apple highlighted Siri's AI upgrades at this month's developer conference, but its more comprehensive AI strategy is being gradually implemented through a series of small features scattered across the system. According to TechCrunch, iOS 27 emphasizes integrating AI into apps users are already using, rather than relying solely on a conversational assistant.

These features are currently in developer beta and will soon be opened for public testing, with plans to launch officially this fall alongside iOS 27. The overall goal is to reduce manual tasks and make the iPhone more automated in payments, password management, message handling, scheduling, and information organization.

Bill Splitting and Password Handling

In a restaurant bill-splitting scenario, users can split the bill using Apple Cash. The system identifies the dishes, quantities, tip, and total from a receipt photo, allowing participants to select their respective items. If multiple people share the same item, it can be divided in portions such as half servings, and taxes and tips are automatically included.

Regarding password management, Apple is preparing to introduce an automatic update feature. The system can identify weak passwords or those exposed in data breaches and automatically complete website logins and password updates on behalf of the user, reducing the need for manual changes.

Messages, calls, and schedules are more automated

Messages will introduce a one-tap suggestion feature. The system will recommend next steps based on chat content, such as adding tasks mentioned by friends to reminders, selecting suitable images from your photo library to share, or prompting you to add dinner or meeting plans to your calendar.

The phone feature will also add “call context” capabilities. For example, when a user calls an airline’s customer service, the system can extract the booking confirmation code from emails and display it directly on the call interface, making it easier to quickly provide information after connecting. Apple says this processing is done on-device.

The calendar app supports creating or modifying events using natural language. Users simply describe their plans, and the system automatically extracts information such as contacts and locations to generate event titles, reducing the need to manually fill out forms.

Shortcuts, Home, and Safari Organization

The Shortcuts app will also lower the barrier to entry. Previously, this feature was geared toward advanced users and required manually building workflows. In iOS 27, users can simply describe the task they want their phone to perform, and the system will generate the corresponding automation—such as automatically sending an estimated time of arrival when leaving work, or turning on the porch light when a food delivery is approaching.

The Home app reduces duplicate notifications by combining a series of related actions into a single alert—for example, when someone arrives home, opens or closes the garage door, and enters the house—instead of sending separate notifications for each event. It also helps you search for specific event clips and highlights noteworthy video segments for easier viewing.

Regarding Safari, Apple will introduce a tab organization feature. The system will recognize the content you're currently browsing and automatically group tabs by topic—for example, organizing all pages related to travel plans into a single group for easy access later.

From this update, Apple’s approach to advancing AI on the iPhone leans toward embedding capabilities into existing software workflows rather than focusing solely on Siri. This path is more aligned with everyday usage scenarios than emphasizing “conversational AI.”
