Apple Faces Its Biggest iPhone Test in Years -- Morgan Stanley Sees $14B Foldable Opportunity

Apple AAPL could be heading into a closely watched product event as Morgan Stanley expects the company to unveil its first foldable iPhone alongside several new devices on Sept. 9. The event is expected to feature the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4 and AirPods 5. Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring also expects new CEO John Ternus to lead the presentation, marking a leadership change at Apple's major annual launch. The foldable iPhone could become an important revenue driver if buyers respond well. Morgan Stanley estimates about 6.5 million units could ship during the December quarter, generating roughly $14 billion, or 16% of quarterly iPhone revenue.

Pricing may be another key issue for investors. The firm expects Pro models to cost $200 to $500 more than comparable previous versions, while a 512GB foldable model could start at $2,399 and the 2TB version may reach $3,199.

Apple could use higher prices to offset rising memory costs while keeping iPhone gross margins near 40%.

A strong foldable launch could support Apple's December-quarter revenue, while higher prices could test consumer demand.
