Anjali Anand Defends Doing Dhamaal 4 Despite 'Fat Shaming' Jokes
Anjali Anand, who was recently seen in Dhamaal 4, has reacted to a content creator criticising her for doing the film despite the repeated ‘fat shaming’ jokes in the film. The content creator, Soumya Dubey, shared a clip from one of the actress’ interviews in which she said that if someone called her ‘fat’, she would call them ‘ugly’ because their remarks reflected who they were. Reacting to this interview, the content creator argued that Anjali’s recent film Dhamaal 4 appeared to contradict that message. She said that the actor’s character in the film was repeatedly the subject of fat-shaming jokes, and questioned why Anjali would associate herself with such a project while also advocating body positivity. The actress addressed the criticism, and explained that she doesn’t have the privilege to turn down films offered to her.

Anjali Anand later responded in the comments with a detailed explanation of her circumstances. She said that she doesn’t have the privilege of rejecting projects, saying there aren’t filmmakers ‘lining up’ to offer her roles.
“Yes my love. Because the society still is ugly. Go see comments on my page and you’ll get it. Nobody is going to write me a part until I put myself out there and show what I can do with my talent so yes, I’m biting a bitter pill to run my house and put food on my table and taking up projects that I’m getting. I do not have an option to choose what I want to do and what not. There aren’t directors lining up for me to give me parts," she wrote.
Addressing the criticism directly, Anand also argued that portraying a character in a film does not necessarily mean endorsing the behaviour shown on screen. “My first project- UNTAG, Then Dhhai kilo prem then Rocky Rani and then this. If they want to cast a fat girl, honey I’ll be the best damn fat girl they’ve ever seen because I’m here for the long run. I have to wait it out until the whole climate changes. It’s a revolution and it will take time and I have the balls to wait it out until then. A serial killer playing a part in a film does not mean he supports killing people. Don’t ridicule me to my size. See what I can do with my talent and where I have reached with it. Abhi bahot kuch karna baaki hai. Jai Mata Di lets rock," she further added.
