All schools, Anganwadi centres to remain closed tomorrow in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur

All government and private schools in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district will remain closed tomorrow in view of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall associated with the prevailing weather system, official sources said on Sunday. According to the administrative decision, Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs), Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV), and Anganwadi centres in the district will also remain closed.

“In view of the weather warning issued by IMD regarding forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall likely to occur in Jagatsinghpur district due to the low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjourning Gangetic West Bengal-North Odisha and keeping in view the safety of students, all types of government, govt-aided, privately managed schools in elementary/secondary/ higher secondary level/OAVS/KVs of Jagatsinghpur district will remain closed on 27th July, 2026 (Monday),” a notification issued in this regard by the District Collector mentioned.

The precautionary step has been taken to ensure the safety of students and children amid the likelihood of heavy rainfall. The district administration has urged educational institutions and concerned authorities to comply with the closure order.

The decision comes as weather conditions remain a concern, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain posing serious challenges to transportation and movement in several areas. Students and parents have been advised to take note of the district administration’s decision regarding the closure.

Worth mentioning, the well-marked Low Pressure system over northwest Bay of Bengal (BoB) and adjoining areas of North Odisha-West Bengal coasts concentrated into a Depression and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 26th July 2026, over the same region.

It is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify further into a Deep Depression during the next 24 hours and cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Island around forenoon or noon of July 27, the IMD sources informed.
