Radhika Madan admits how Deepfakes and AI recreations from leaked intimate scenes in films have become rampant, and states she has no qualms about taking legal action against it.

Radhika Apte experienced intimate clip leaks from films twice in her career - first from Parched and then from The Wedding Guest.

In 2016, an intimate scene between Radhika Apte and Adil Hussain from Parched was leaked. Two years later, another scene featuring her and Dev Patel from The Wedding Guest began circulating online without authorisation. Back then, she called out the double-standards and inherent misogyny of the situation as the clip was being shared under her and not Dev’s name.

Recently, without naming the film, she stated that it became tough for her to deal with a situation when her watchman and stylist’s driver had seen a leaked clip. Her remarks cast a spotlight on the risks female actors face when such footage from films finds its way online without consent. Now, speaking exclusively to News18, Radhikka Madan and Vijay Varma share their stance on voyeurism.

“It’s never in our hands. So, there’s no point troubling yourself by constantly thinking about it. You know the intention with which you’re doing a film and the intention with which the makers build a scene like that. The idea is to just do our job and move on. Jinki nazrein kharab hai, unka hum kya kar sakte hai?" says Radhikka, who filmed an intimate scene with Ali Fazal for Lust Stories 3.

In her words, Radhikka gets into such scenes by considering the risks involved. “We can’t barge into their homes and tell them to refrain from doing these things. You genuinely can’t do anything. When you do an intimate scene, you have to keep in mind that a leak is always a possibility. You go into it knowing that risk exists and also hope that it doesn’t happen," she states.

She admits that Deepfakes and AI recreations have become rampant and remarks, “You can go to the cyber police. There are guidelines today that can protect you. You can take legal action as well and that helps, but you can’t control what other people do and how they view an intimate scene. Their actions speak more about them than you. It just implies what kind of mentality they have."

Vijay, on the other hand, states that men too bear the brunt of such leaks. In Lust Stories 2, his intimate scene with then girlfriend Tamannaah Bhatia in Sujoy Ghosh’s short went viral and was downloaded from multiple sites. But he wants to be able to push these fears at the back of his head. “We need to be able to shut out the audience gaze while filming such scenes," he tells us.

“We know that these clips are going to circulate a lot. That’s just the nature of how things work. There are some things you can’t change. Certain clips get floated around a lot more on all kinds of pages. But if I can’t let go of these thoughts, I won’t be able to do the work that I do and I can’t be pushing boundaries as an actor," adds Vijay, who shares screen space with Radhika in Lust Stories 3.
