We knew it was coming for a while now. While the Nvidia Control Panel had enjoyed years of giving gamers driver updates and customisation over how the GPU works, we saw the first glimpses of the Nvidia App. It was pitched as the successor to the Control Panel, and while it wasn't quite ready to supercede it on release, Nvidia slowly began moving features over to the App.
Now, it seems that the Nvidia App is fit for purpose. The company has announced that the Nvidia Control Panel is no longer being updated, although people can still keep it around if they really want.
The Nvidia Control Panel loses support to make room for the App
The writing was on the wall for a while
Over on the , the company announced the release of the GeForce GRD 610.47 driver. This update brings support for 007 First Light and adds tweaks for Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
However, at the bottom of the patch notes, Nvidia announces that "all actively supported NVIDIA Control Panel features for GeForce users" have been added to the Nvidia App, meaning there isn't much reason to keep supporting it any more.

After 20 years of dedicated service, the classic NVIDIA Control Panel is officially retiring for Game Ready and Studio Drivers. For NVIDIA RTX PRO users, the NVIDIA Control Panel will continue to be supported until we have migrated professional features to the NVIDIA app.
The company elaborates that people who have the Nvidia Control Panel installed won't be forced off of it. However, the app won't receive security updates, features, or fixes, so anyone who doesn't need to use the Control Panel is recommended to make the jump sooner rather than later.
