The actor is currently at the centre of a rather unexpected social media frenzy in India after pictures and videos of him with the Indian woman began making rounds online.

Is it even a love story?

Recently, the Taiwanese actor shared a carousel of photos with an Indian girl. The caption only made matters more interesting. Cheng wrote at length about Indian women, describing their warmth, emotional openness and the way they make strangers feel welcome. He also recalled the woman he first saw at the hotel.

And it was enough to send social media into full detective mode about the identity of the girl.

People dug up the year-old Reel on his account, which is now viral. Next thing we knew, they were all over the internet. If you go by the speculations, the woman is believed to be the same staff he had met at the hotel.

The story apparently goes back to 2025, when Cheng visited India and was welcomed at a hotel by a female staff member with an aarti and tilak. A seemingly ordinary hospitality moment caught viewers' attention because of the adorable way Cheng appeared to look at her. Pretty much like a Bollywood film's love-at-first-sight moment.

People noticed the chemistry and immediately started rooting for the two of them.

One person commented, "He was falling in love, I repeat HE WAS FALLING IN LOVE." Another said, "If he doesn't look at me like this, then I don't want it!"

Several others also started drawing comparisons with former Indian skipper MS Dhoni's love story with Sakshi Dhoni, which too purportedly began at a hotel, and they are currently living their happily ever after.

However, despite the captions, reunion video and very obvious affection, Cheng has not publicly confirmed that the woman is his girlfriend. The woman, too, has not publicly spoken about their relationship. For now, the romance remains firmly in the "rumoured" category.

So, why exactly are they viral?

With the cute photos, the video that is now viral and his latest story, that, understandably, was enough for the internet to collectively believe the "love story", if there is one. Well, they definitely want it to be.

You don't need much to go viral any more. A little hope, a stranger, a sweet gesture, a reunion and a possibly romantic caption. Perhaps that uncertainty is precisely why everyone is hooked. Several comments hint at how Cheng is actually an openly gay actor. Back in 2020, he shared a post about his web series Craving For You where he expressed his emotions.

Additionally, there's also no way to confirm if these are AI-generated videos and photos or not. Which brings us back to where we started - is there really a love story?

We don't know about the whereabouts of the woman – her name, whether she's the same woman from the hotel, or where she comes from.
