Next-Gen Tata Safari – New Platform

Reports suggest that Tata will be moving on from the Range Rover-derived OmegaArc platform. The next-gen Safari will adopt the ARGOS platform from the Sierra. Tata has spent big bucks on developing this platform. While ARGOS currently supports vehicles with a length between 4.3m and 4.6m, we expect Tata to make minor tweaks to extend it for the Safari. With the platform, we expect the practicality and passenger comfort to improve significantly.

More Luxurious Than Ever

Another component that we expect the Safari to borrow from the Sierra is frequency-dependent dampeners (FDD). This would significantly improve ride quality. Mahindra already offers FDD with the XUV7XO, and Tata could finally have an answer to it.

Tata recently loaded up the Safari with a plethora of features. Tata would have a hard time topping up its current feature list, so don’t expect many new additions in this regard. Nevertheless, the cabin experience is expected to be further elevated thanks to the addition of FDD suspension and better cabin packaging of the new platform.

Next-Gen Tata Safari – AWD For The First Time?

One niggle with the older OmegaArc platform was the incompatibility with AWD. That will finally change with the next-gen Safari if it uses the new ARGOS platform. Its primary rival, the XUV7XO, offers AWD on its top variants. With AWD, the Safari would finally get the off-road capabilities to back the rugged looks.

Pricing & Launch

Currently, the Safari is priced between Rs 15.79 lakh and Rs 32.16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). FWD variants are expected to see a price hike of around Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000. At the same time, the AWD trims would demand a Rs 1 lakh premium over the standard FWD variants.

The Safari remains one of the most feature-rich models in the market at the moment, and an update is quite necessary yet. Tata could launch the next-gen Safari by late 2027, but any major developments in the segment could push Tata to prepone the launch.

Next-Gen Tata Safari – Powertrain

The ARGOS platform is compatible with hybrid powertrains. Not to mention, Tata has developed an all-new Atkinson-cycle-based 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. This type of engine is commonly used in HEVs. Tata has denied working on hybrid powertrains for now, but it still remains a strong possibility for the Safari in the near future. Not to mention, the 2.0-litre diesel and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol will continue to be on offer with the new model.
