It runs alongside the 2026 Cairns Cup, which is also a 10-player round-robin featuring some of the strongest women in the world, with a prize fund of $250,000.

GM Wesley So won his third title and $87,500 at the 2026 Sinquefield Cup. After all the classical games ended in draws, he and GM Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu contested the champion's title in rapid playoffs. The two rapid games ended in draws, and with a third draw in a nervy armageddon game, So claimed the title.
GM Tan Zhongyi won her second title and $65,000 at the 2026 Cairns Cup, albeit with a loss in the final round against IM Stavroula Tsolakidou. Since runner-up IM Alice Lee only drew IM Carissa Yip, however, 6.5 points were still enough for Tan to win outright. That draw was enough for Lee earn her first grandmaster norm at the age of 16.
