The Television Academy has announced this years Emmy Award nominees.
Set to be hosted by Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay, the 2026 Emmy Award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 14, airing on both NBC and Peacock for viewers at home. A slew of heavy hitters is expected to appear on the nominations list this morning, with major shows like Stranger Things and Hacks debuting their final seasons.
A handful of newcomers are hoping to make a splash, too. Late arrival Widow's Bay is a sneaky favorite in the comedy categories, while critical darling and audience favorite Pluribus will compete for its first season. It's a more muted year for the Limited Series categories, with shows like Netflix's Beef and The Beast in Me expecting to compete, though FX may have a hit on its hands with Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, with star Sarah Pidgeon tipped for an acting nom.

In addition, it was announced The Pitt has been nominated for 25 total Emmys, while Hacks has made history as the first comedy show to be nominated for 24 different awards.
The Emmy nominations lay the groundwork for another high-profile awards ceremony, including both ongoing TV shows that have impressed before, as well as newcomers that could leave a major mark on the award ceremony this year. The 2025 Emmy nominations included a number of shows seen this year, such as Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Nobody Wants This, Hacks, The Pitt, The Diplomat, Slow Horses, and Paradise. Last year, The Studio won Outstanding Comedy Series, while The Pitt took home Outstanding Drama Series.
Since The Studio season 2 is still in production, this year's comedy categories are up in the air. Jean Smart has won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for every season of Hacks thus far, which could be the case once more for the final season. But her competition is still, including returning nominees like Ayo Edibiri and Quinta Brunson, alongside Elle Fanning for her new show. Lisa Kudrow for The Comeback is unique, her nomination coinciding with the show's return last year after a 12-year hiatus.

As for dramas, Pluribus made history by becoming Apple TV's most watched show of all time, alongside critical acclaim. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms also earned significant praise, with episode 5 becoming one of the highest-rated episodes of TV of all time on IMDb. Of course, returnees like The Diplomat continue to make waves in every core category, while The Pitt's promising return to the nominee list could mean another major sweep for the show.
On limited and anthology series, The Beat in Me gives Matthew Rhys a second nomination on top of his Widow's Bay nom, while both Beef and Monster continue with new actors at the helm. The category's inclusion of Sally Field for Remarkably Bright Creatures marks a rare moment for movies in the category of lead actor or actress, typically populated by TV shows.
In addition, the numerous supporting actor and actress nominations point not only to The Pitt and Hacks as maintaining top spots, but also the promise of newcomers like DTF St. Louis and Widow's Bay, which earned a number of notable nominations. The variety of shows old and new at the 2026 Emmys promises that anything could happen, especially since so many of the series nominated have many a lasting impression on critics and audiences alike.
