Compared to 1,54,536 units sold in May last year, the segment registered a gain of 38,040 units, translating to a 24.62% YoY growth. TVS Apache continued to lead the segment, while Bajaj Pulsar emerged as one of the biggest gainers.
150cc to 200cc Motorcycle Sales May 2026
TVS Apache remained the highest-selling motorcycle in the segment with sales of 53,900 units in May 2026, compared to 49,099 units in May 2025. The brand added 4,801 units year-on-year, registering 9.78% growth and commanding a 27.99% share of the segment.
Bajaj Pulsar followed closely with 49,994 units, recording one of the strongest gains among established players. Sales increased by 11,685 units over last year, resulting in 30.50% YoY growth. Pulsar accounted for nearly 26% of total segment sales. Honda Unicorn retained third place with 34,925 units, up from 28,616 units a year ago. The commuter motorcycle registered a healthy 22.05% increase in volumes and held an 18.14% market share.
Yamaha’s lineup delivered an impressive performance during the month. FZ sales increased 14.51% to 14,862 units, while R15 posted one of the highest growth rates in the segment with sales jumping 63.47% to 9,803 units. MT-15 also recorded healthy gains, rising 36.18% to 9,579 units. Yamaha XSR registered 6,587 units, capturing a 3.42% market share.
Honda SP160 continued its upward trajectory with 4,235 units, reflecting 28.57% YoY growth. KTM’s combined 160cc and 200cc range registered 3,305 units, up 59.58% over the previous year, making it one of the fastest-growing premium brands in this segment. Hero Xpulse 200 posted modest growth of 7.15%, with sales increasing to 2,579 units. Hero Xtreme 160 also improved significantly, recording 951 units, up 52.65% year-on-year. Suzuki Gixxer contributed 1,054 units during the month, registering 15.32% growth.
Not every motorcycle ended the month on a positive note. Honda CB200X sales declined 29.52% to 413 units, while Hornet 2.0 witnessed a sharp 69.44% drop, ending the month with just 389 units. Bajaj Avenger and Kawasaki W175 registered no sales during May 2026, compared to 1,277 units and 57 units respectively in the corresponding month last year.
OEM-wise Performance
At the OEM level, TVS Motor retained leadership in the 150-200cc motorcycle segment with 53,900 units sold in May 2026, registering a 9.78% YoY growth. Bajaj Auto followed closely with 49,994 units, recording a strong 30.50% increase, largely driven by healthy demand for the Pulsar range.
Yamaha emerged as the fastest-growing mainstream manufacturer in this segment, with cumulative sales rising 56.99% to 40,831 units. The growth was driven by strong performances from R15, MT-15, FZ, Fascino-derived XSR, along with the newly introduced XSR motorcycle, which added 6,587 units in its first full year.
Honda reported 39,962 units, up 18.34% year-on-year, with the Unicorn continuing to be the brand’s volume driver. KTM posted the highest percentage growth among established brands at 59.58%, albeit on a smaller base, while Hero MotoCorp registered 16.50% growth to 3,530 units, supported by Xpulse 200 and Xtreme 160. Suzuki also remained in positive territory with 15.32% growth, whereas Kawasaki recorded no sales in the segment during the month.
